An enterprising church in South Yorkshire has launched its latest venture – a community café.
A weekly café has opened its doors at Bethesda Church, on Mansfield Road, Swallownest, as another way for the church to serve residents living in the local community.
Hot drinks, scones, cakes, toast and biscuits are served every Thursday between 10am and 2pm.
Pastor Iain Somerville said: “As a family friendly church we are always trying to find ways of serving our local community and this is just our latest in a number of initiatives planned to launch in 2014.
“We are not setting out to compete with local cafés, simply to offer a few hours each week when people can come together in a non-threatening, non-commercial environment just to relax and have a chat.
“Should they need more, such as an understanding listening ear, in confidence, or a prayer for health or other issues, then our friendly team of volunteers will be pleased to help.”
Any profits from the café will be added to its mission fund which supports local community activities.
Mr Somerville said: “By joining us for coffee once a week, local people will be directly benefitting other local good causes and needs."
