Eleven apprentices from Sheffield have joined repairs and maintenance provider Kier in roles including plumbing, joinery, bricklaying, electrical and plastering.

The recruits will gain on-site experience and attend training sessions at Sheffield College, working with mentors with industry experience.

Set up as a joint venture between Sheffield City Council and Kier, Kier Sheffield carries out repairs and maintenance to more than 42,000 council properties across the city.

Operations director, Phil Oades, said: “We are committed to providing jobs to young people in the community and our apprenticeships ensure trainees receive the highest standard of training.”
