Magtec are continuing to spark a UK electric vehicle revolution as six new buses equipped with their drive trains hit the road in York.

The six First Group buses are operating on the city’s University Loop route.

Marcus Jenkins, Magtec managing director, said: “It’s very pleasing to see electric vehicle technology being embraced by environmentally conscious local authorities such as York City Council.

“The new Optare Versa electric buses are a welcome clean, green, carbon free addition to York’s roads and we are proud that our drive trains are playing their part in this.”

The Sheffield company designs and manufactures drive systems and components for a wide range of vehicles.

Its drive systems include traction motors, power controllers, battery and charging systems.

Due to the high efficiency and low weight of the systems, it is claimed buses have a greater range, lower un-laden weight and use fewer batteries than competitors. They are also in use in Stranraer and Nottingham.
