Local Enterprise Partnership chairman James Newman has welcomed a series of Government initiatives designed to help the newly-formed regional economic growth and job creation partnerships.
Mr Newman was speaking after Business Minister Mark Prisk unveiled the initiatives at a meeting attended by more than 100 representatives from the Sheffield City Region business community.
He said “The LEP Board has been calling on Government for some time to make real their commitment to the LEPs and their potential, by providing much-needed practical support on the ground.
“We’re delighted the Minister chose Sheffield to make this significant announcement, which demonstrates how the Sheffield City Region LEP has already won a firm place on the national LEP map.”
Measures announced by Mr Prisk included a £5m fund to provide operational support for LEPs, additional funding for LEPs to carry out research into the local economy and the creation of a ‘Local Enterprise Toolbox,’ which will give LEPs direct access to civil servants spearheading economic development activity across government departments.
