E-learning company i-Education has been named runner- up in a leading global technology competition.
The Doncaster-based company was second in the Secondary Digital Content category of the BETT awards, presented at what is claimed to be the world’s leading learning technology event.
I-Education produces ‘I am learning’ software, which is used by schools across the UK and around the world, and recently won a contract to supply ‘I am learning’ to all schools in Malaysia.
The company’s I am Learning: Success software was launched in Malaysia last year through online learning resources company Frog, which acquired a 51 per cent stake in I-Education in 2012.
I am Learning: Success comprises tens of thousands of curriculum linked questions on mathematics, technical English and localised Malay content which develops English as an additional language.
The materials are delivered through I-Education’s innovative games based system, which incorporates a comprehensive tracking and reporting system that highlights areas where a student is strong or needs to improve.
I-Education’s managing director, Michael Wilkinson, says the partnership with Frog, which is based in Halifax, has helped i-Education to reach customers more cost effectively.
“Strategic partnerships are vital whatever you’re doing, but in export, even more so.
“We’ve partnered with a company, Frog, that has local knowledge, an existing customer base and a vested interest in our success.
“It allows you to reach customers much more cost effectively – it’s a warm audience because they know your partner. It would be extremely difficult for us to do this on our own.”
I-Education’s success has come as the firm has been looking for an apprentice with some experience of computer programming to join its team.
Doncaster’s elected mayor, Ros Jones, said: “Doncaster Council has supported i-Education for a number of years through its Business Doncaster team.
“Jobs and growth are top priorities for me and I am delighted to see this successful local firm taking on an apprentice.”
