Motorists are warned to expect disruption when runners take to the streets for the Sheffield Half Marathon.

Thousands of people are set to tackle the 13.1-mile route through Sheffield on Sunday, April 6, from 9am.

And race organisers have announced a series of road closures while it takes place.

Margaret Lilley, race chairman, said: “With an event the size and scale of the Sheffield Half Marathon, it is only natural some roads will be affected.

“We have worked hard to keep any disruption to a minimum and, as in previous years, the city’s road network gets back to normal quickly after the race has finished.

“We’re encouraging runners and spectators travelling to the Don Valley Bowl to take advantage of Supertram’s special half marathon all-day tram ticket for £2.50.

“There is a tram stop directly next to the start and finish line, so it’s the simplest and cheapest way to get to and from the race.”

This year, following the closure and subsequent demolition of Don Valley Stadium, the race will start and end at Don Valley Bowl in Attercliffe.

Those taking part will run via Ecclesall Road, Division Street and Arundel Gate, passing through Attercliffe Common, and Brightside Lane, before making a return back to Don Valley Bowl.

* Entry for the half marathon is £26, or £5 for the associated 3km fun run. To enter, call 0845 388 3438.
