It is not just push bikes which have seen a surge in demand this year, Italian motorbikes have been selling rapidamente, according to a Sheffield dealer.

Via Moto, an Italian motorbike and moped specialist, saw sales leap to more than 100 bikes in the first half of this year - 33 per cent up on the year previous.

The firm has just moved from Abbeydale Road, where it started in 2012, into premises triple the size at Shalesmoor.

It has also hired three new staff, says owner Matthew Gilder.

He added: “Our customers are buying into a lifestyle as well as a investing in a mode of transport which is stylish, convenient and incredibly cost effective. Part of our success is from repeat custom.”
