Digital network milestone

Have your say

The company spearheading a multi-million pound programme that will give South Yorkshire the most advanced digital communications in the country says almost 70 per cent of the network has been completed.

More than 295 miles of fibre-optic cable has been laid and half of the 1,500 street cabinets have been commissioned, allowing more than 175,000 premises to connect to the Digital Region network.

Once the network is complete fibre optic cables will bring ‘Super-fast Broadband,’ with speeds in excess of 25 MB, to the majority of the 550,000 homes and 25,000 businesses across the county.

n Digital Region and Business & Education South Yorkshire are challenging teams of pupils aged 10 and 11 from 10 schools in Doncaster and Retford to demonstrate what life might be like in the “connected home” of the future.
