Criteria firms must fulfil for the Top 100

To be included in the Star Business/Barber Harrison & Platt Top100 SMEs, companies must fulfil two of the following criteria:

* Have fewer than 250 employees

* Have less than £25.9m turnover

* Have less than £12.9m gross assets.

Companies must not be a charity, academy, limited liability partnership or listed public limited company and they must be up-to-date filing accounts at Companies House.

SMEs have been included from across the whole of Sheffield City Region, as defined by the Local Enterprise Partnership, which includes Barnsley, Bassetlaw, Bolsover, Chesterfield, Derbyshire Dales, Doncaster, North East Derbyshire, Rotherham and Sheffield.

To qualify for consideration, SMEs must have a principal trading address or registered office within one of the following postcodes: S1-S79, S80-81, S99, DN1-DN12, DE4, DE45, DE55, DE6, DN14 9, DN22, NG16 6, NG19 7-NG19 8, NG20 8-NG20 9. NG22 0, SK17.

If the financial periods for the accounts are greater or less than 52 weeks, the figures have been annualised on a pro-rata basis.

The figures are compiled by Barber Harrison & Platt using the latest published financial information at the time of carrying out this survey filed at Companies House, and financial data provided by Bureau van Dijk’s Fame database at the time the survey was carried out.

Private company information can be incomplete. In preparing this table every reasonable effort has been made to ensure that no qualifying companies have been omitted.

All the tables are based on profit figures and individual town and area tables have been drawn up according to postal towns. This can mean that a company which falls within one local authority’s boundaries appears in the listing for another area.

In certain circumstances the compilers of the table have made exceptions to the qualification criteria and their decision is final.
