Sports facilities at a South Yorkshire college are to be given a £4 million upgrade – with work due to be completed by next summer.
Barnsley College is to invest £2.7 million in the project and the remaining funding has been secured from the Skills Funding Agency.
The existing sports academy will be extended, while a former theatre building on the Honeywell campus will be turned into a multi-function sports hall, dance studio, gym and bistro.
Eight classrooms for sport and public services students will also be created and the sports hall will be open to the public.
The plans are one part of a major expansion strategy for the college.
Work has already begun on a centre for science, technology, engineering and maths on Old Mill Lane.
Proposals for a new £17 million sixth form college are also waiting to get final approval.
