Clouded future for IT

Cloud Computing and tablet computers have rewritten the IT business model, according to Gary Smith, co-founder of Prism Total IT Solutions.

Mr Smith’s comments came as the world’s largest PC manufacturer, Hewlett-Packard, announced it is to shed 27,000 jobs by the end of 2014 and leading UK independent hotel and hospitality chain, De Vere signed a multi-million deal to move it’s corporate IT infrastructure into the Cloud. Cloud computing involves using remote hardware and software across the internet, instead of on desktop machines and has led to the development of Software as a Service, (SaaS) which is paid for as and when it is used instead of being bought as a stand alone package.

Local companies developing SaaS and Cloud delivery models include retail and manufacturing software specialist Sanderson.
