The Management School at the University of Sheffield is sponsoring the Young Business Person Award at the City Region Business Awards 2015.

A successful management school relies upon partnerships it establishes with the local business community.

Sheffield University Management School and the organisations it liaises with reap the benefits of working together.

Organisations can utilise the school’s student talent and work with them on ground-breaking research as well as engaging with their global, national and regional networks.

This means graduates from the school are stronger and the university’s academic research is creating impact in society and our networks grow.

Students at the school have completed successful projects with hugely innovative companies in Sheffield City Region, including Chimo Holdings and Plusnet.

Chris Hudson, team principal at Chimo Holdings, said: “We engaged a group of four students on the Sheffield MBA.

“They had no prior knowledge of our industry, but learnt quickly and provided us with a comprehensive report, including recommended actions.

“The students were extremely conscientious, thorough and gave us some new and innovative ideas.

“As the project with Chimo Holdings formed part of their final assessment, they were serious about the project, so it is an excellent way for any company to have a piece of research undertaken from a different perspective. We were very impressed by the experience.”

Andrea Kilgour, Plusnet human resources director, was equally enthusiastic about the project she worked on with undergraduate students: “At Plusnet we are always looking at ways in which we can build meaningful and lasting relationships with educational institutions close to our offices.

“We are committed to the responsibility we have to motivate and progress local talent, and are passionate about offering first-hand experience and insight into our industry and market trends.

“We are proud to play our part in preparing and inspiring today’s students to become the telecoms leaders of tomorrow.”

Sheffield University Management School is in the top one per cent of business schools – its Triple Crown accreditation positions it among a global elite.

The Management School is passionate about Sheffield City Region’s development and the university believes its contribution can make a significant difference.
