Law firm Irwin Mitchell has won a top award for corporate strategy.
The Sheffield-based firm clinched the award and an accolade for being a legal industry pioneer on the same day that new rules came into being opening up the sector to competition from other professionals and even supermarkets.
Irwin Mitchell won the award for its innovative corporate strategy at the annual FT Innovative Lawyers’ awards.
Judges praised the firm for having a suite of initiatives that made it “one of the most ground- breaking, best-known law firms in the UK” and named it an industry pioneer for the actions it had taken in response to the introduction of the Legal Services Act.
The firm was also ranked 12th among the top 50 European law firms by judges.
Irwin Mitchell senior executive Joe Simpson said winning the strategy award on the day new regulations came in which were designed to push innovation and open up markets showed how well positioned the firm was for the challenges ahead.
“The award for our innovative corporate strategy is a considerable achievement and one that clearly defines our position as one of the leading innovative law firms within Europe,” said Mr Simpson.
“These awards demonstrate that Irwin Mitchell is a firm that is embracing these changes and is uniquely placed to provide the very best client service.”
Earlier this year, Irwin Mitchell announced it planned to take advantage of changes in the Legal Services Act by converting to an Alternative Business Structure at the earlier opportunity and seeking external capital to further its growth plans at some time in the future.
n Launched in 2006, the FT Innovative Lawyers’ awards are one of the top legal rankings in Europe.
