More than 400 jobs will be created when a Chinese development is built near Sheffield city centre.

Plans for the £65 million scheme between Bramall Lane and London Road were announced today.

The New Era Square proposals include student accommodation, retail units, food outlets, office space and an exhibition hall.

There will also be a China business incubator to help businesses to break into the Chinese market and provide those in China with a way into the UK.

A consortium of six investors from mainland China have put money into the scheme.

The plans have been submitted to Sheffield Council and it is hoped construction work will begin in early 2015 and be finished in the summer of 2016.

Jerry Cheung, managing director of New Era Development UK Limited, said: “It is a landmark project for an area of the city which will be transformed into a modern, cultural and enjoyable location for all.”
