The chief finance officer of leading UK outdoor clothing and equipment firm GO Outdoors has been named Best Finance Director of a Limited Company at the Yorkshire Finance Director of the Year Awards.
David Hanney, 43, joined Sheffield-based GO Outdoors five years ago and has been at the financial helm while it expanded from just seven stores to more than 30 in an area stretching from Clydebank in the North to Exeter in the South.
His success comes days after GO Outdoors was named Retailer of the Year at the Star Business Awards and not long after Yorkshire-based venture capital business YFM Equity Partners won the VCT Deal of the Year Award for the partial sale of its investment in the firm.
The company was placed third in 2011 league table of Britain’s 100 fastest-growing companies backed by private equity.
Mr Hanney said: “This is a very special award, coming during the busiest year in GO Outdoors’ history. In May we secured a £30 million three-year financial package from Lloyds Banking Group. This will enable us to open ten more stores and create 500 retail jobs. In April private equity firm 3i took a significant minority stake in Go Outdoors, providing a further cash injection.
“The award is testimony to the incredible GO Outdoors success story. Finance is playing its part of course, but, for me, it’s a joy to be part of a multi-skilled management team.”
