Councillors have refused a licence for a bar previously closed down for drug dealing.
Chesterfield Council’s licensing committee rejected the application for Bar Centro on Holywell Street.
Objections were made by Derbyshire Police, the council’s environmental health and licensing teams, and by local residents.
The council adopted a policy in 2012 for part of the town centre, which means a licence is refused unless an applicant can show it will not add to crime and anti-social behaviour.
The committee felt the applicant, Shaun Noble, who was a business partner in Bar Centro before its licence was revoked earlier this year, had not demonstrated that enough steps were in place to prevent crime and disorder and public nuisance.
