THE South Yorkshire Federation of Small Businesses has written to MPs and councillors in Sheffield and Rotherham to urge them to support the reopening of Sheffield City Airport.

Latest UK Airport Statistics show passenger numbers for October at Robin Hood Airport, near Doncaster, were 23 per cent down on October 2011. The FSB believes flights from Robin Hood are unsuitable for business needs.

It has also highlighted evidence by the Parliamentary Group for Yorkshire and Northern Lincolnshire asking for more airport capacity outside the south east.

Gordon Millward, regional chairman of the FSB, said: “Air travel connectivity is a vital ingredient in attracting inward investment.”
