Barratt Homes is planning to build 68 new homes on the 4.55 acre site of Chesterfield Football Club’s former stadium, off Saltergate.
Construction work on a range of two, three and four-bedroom homes, aimed at everyone from first time buyers to expanding families and even ‘downsizers,’ is expected kick off within the next three months.
The sale of the site was managed by land and planning development consultancy Hawksmoor Property Services.
Hawksmoor director Brian Egerton said: “Demand for the property had been strong from both regional and national house builders, right from the commencement of marketing.
“We were pleased to exchange contracts with Barratt Homes in a very short period of time and to conclude the sale in January.
“We are confident Barratt Homes will successfully transform this development opportunity and wish them continued success.”
Barratt East Midlands’ land buyer Holly Sawford said: “We are very excited about this new opportunity.
“It will be a flagship development due to its close proximity to Chesterfield town centre and a great addition to the Barratt East Midlands portfolio.
“This is an excellent achievement for the East Midlands division and we hope to secure more sites of this calibre going forward this year.”
