AN initiative has been launched to get youngsters from Yorkshire fired up about becoming entrepreneurs.

Wildfire - http://www.wildfirehub.com/ is the brainchild of a consortium that includes the region’s further education colleges and is backed by the European Regional Development Fund as part of Europe’s support fo economic development.

The initiative aims to challenge stereotypes about the young and prove that they are the most enterprising individuals by providing them with business start-up advice online.

The interactive website provides tips and advice including what to consider when setting up a home office, inspirational case studies and competitions and also enables potential entrepreneurs to put questions to young business people and experienced advisers online.

Guest speaker at the launch was entrepreneur, Deirdre Bounds, who started a business in a bedsit that became the world’s biggest gap year travel company and was acquired by a FTSE 100 company for an eight-figure sum.

She said: “I am really passionate about Wildfire which is new, fresh and dynamic.

“I truly believe it is massively important to have the right skills to start a business. The website can also help young people to develop those all important life skills and whether they choose to become self employed or get a job Wildfire is a great site.”
