The “best of the best” were crowned at the Sheffield City Region Business Awards last night.
A gala presentation evening at Ponds Forge sports centre in Sheffield honoured 13 companies and individuals judged to be the ‘first among winners’ from the six biggest business awards in the region.
Hundreds of people attended the black tie event including the heads of Chambers of Commerce, senior figures from Sheffield College and industry leaders.
It was the second year of the awards which pull together winners from the Doncaster, Sheffield, Barnsley&Rotherham and Derbyshire Chambers as well as from the Chad and Derbyshire Times newspapers.
The Star editor, James Mitchinson, told guests: “ I’d like to think we can use this, the second City Region Business Awards, as an opportunity for optimism.
“It’s difficult to be anything but optimistic when you see the calibre of entrants to our awards.
“Without exception, they were superb.
“It goes without saying that the winners of tonight’s top prizes have demonstrated best-in-class brilliance.
“As editor of Sheffield Star and associated titles, I would like to pass on my thanks to everyone who was shortlisted.
“Thank you to the judges, who had the unenviable task of selecting the winners.
“More than anything this should be a night where you say thank you to your teams. Without them, your businesses would not be what they are today.”
The speaker was Nick Hewer, star of hit BBC1 show The Apprentice and the host was BBC Look North presenter Clare Frisby.
