Ben turns down US to gain working benefits

Faced with the choice of a holiday in America and two weeks with one of South Yorkshire’s leading advanced manufacturers, 15-year-old Ben Foster new exactly what he should do.

“I wanted to see what the world of work is like and to get experience of working in a factory,” says Ben. “The things I have enjoyed most are getting to know and work with different people, seeing other people doing their jobs and working in a team.

“It’s helped me think about the type of engineering I want to do, it’s made me more confident in the future and it’s made me realise engineering isn’t just about getting on a machine but planning, measuring and so on.”

Ben is now considering applying for a place at the new University Technical College, which opens in Sheffield later this year.
