Fletchers has progressed from a struggling Sheffield bakery and retail outlet operation to become a major supplier to the UK’s retail and foodservice markets.
Overcoming the difficulties facing the management in 2006 has seen Fletchers established as one of the UK’s most innovative businesses in the bakery sector and a champion of Yorkshire-based training and manufacturing.
From the most adverse set of trading conditions – a devastating fire – the management team has invested heavily to create a dynamic organisation which is winning strong contracts with leading blue-chip companies and supplying market-leading products with a 100 per cent made in Sheffield pedigree.
Fletchers management team has turned a historic Sheffield firm into a prominent national food manufacturer producing market-leading fresh and frozen baked goods.
One of the most significant developments is the installation of a £7m production facility at its Sheffield manufacturing plant following a multi-million pound land-sale to Sainsbury’s.
It supplies fresh and frozen, white, brown or seeded bread rolls to retail and food service customers and houses two production lines, a cold store, a despatch area, a new site entrance and two new car parks for employees. Technical standards throughout have been improved significantly in order to meet exacting customer standards. Over the past two years, Fletchers has worked with the Brakes foodservice team on opportunities for cost reduction in the supply chain to realise £35,000 of annual savings to the Sheffield operations.
