A total of 60 B&Q stores are set to close nationwide in the next two years, including one in Barnsley, it has been reported.
The DIY and home improvements retailer has a large store at Stairfoot Business Park, Beachcroft Way, Barnsley, which is reportedly set to close.
Other stores set to shut include Baums Lane in Mansfield, Southampton, Dundee, Birmingham and Hyde, Greater Manchester.
B&Q’s owner Kingfisher announced the closure of the stores after revealing 15.2 per cent fall in pre-tax profit to £644m for 2014.
In a statement, the firm said: “Kingfisher has said for some time that B&Q UK & Ireland can adequately meet local customer needs from fewer stores and that some of the store should be smaller.”
It is not known when any stores could close or how many jobs may be affected.
But the firm could be set to open about 60 new outlets under its Screwfix brand.
