Sheffield College picked up two awards at a high profile enterprise event held at the House of Commons - with success for a student and an academic.
Alicia Nang, aged 30, won the prize for Enterprising Learner for her work to set up a hair and beauty business specialising in African and Caribbean stylings.
She completed two courses at the college earlier this year and has now launched Alicia Nang Hair and Beauty on Snig Hill.
Also honoured at the Celebrating Enterprise event was Andrew Sale, who won the Enterprise Influencer award.
Andrew, department head for enterprise and employability, helps students with business ideas and advises organisations around the country.
Alicia said: “I am absolutely over the moon at winning this award. It means a lot to me, especially to receive it from a leading light in my industry, Toni Mascolo.
“It has been difficult securing work after leaving university but I really wanted to start my own business.
“The college has helped me a lot by getting me to think about how to use the skills I have, and all the practical steps you need to take. It’s really helped turn my prospects around.”
