Have your say

It had Charlie Webster, an Alice in Wonderland theme, whacky rapper Abandoman and hundreds of guests having a good time - oh, and the small matter of 15 awards hailing the best in business.

Sheffield Business Awards was many things rolled into one entertaining evening.

Held at Ponds Forge International Sports Centre, it started with a sparkling drinks reception to give guests the chance to catch up on gossip before they were ushered through to the main hall which had been given an Alice in Wonderland theme complete with models, decorations and costumed performers including an Alice on stilts.

A sumptuous five-course meal followed, before Irish gangsta rap improvisor Abandoman selected victims from the audience, including Marketing Sheffield director Brendan Moffett, and made up songs about them on the spot.

He was followed by glamorous Sheffield-born television presenter Charlie Webster who bounded on stage, reminisced about her home town and handed out 15 awards, ad libbing and wisecracking as she did so.

More than 800 people attended the event sponsored by Elevation Recruitment and organised by Sheffield Chamber of Commerce in partnership with The Star.

Pryor Marking Technology did the double and won the manufacturing award and the outstanding business award which is selected from all the finalists in the other 14 categories.
