The countdown for Sheffield’s leading awards event has begun.
The city’s Business Awards will be presented at a glittering ceremony on Thursday, December 5, at Ponds Forge International Sports Centre.
After running their own award for a number of years, The Star and Sheffield Chamber of Commerce have joined forces to create a single contest that will determine the best of the best in 15 separate categories.
But it doesn’t end there, for the categories line up with those in the City Region Business Awards competition. And a win in the Sheffield awards will automatically book a place in the prestigious regional event next summer.
Presenting the awards is Julia Bradbury, who has travelled the world presenting TV programmes and holds an honorary degree from Sheffield Hallam University.
The Broadcaster and star of BBC TV’s Countryfile, who went to King Edward VII school as a teenager while her father Michael worked for British Steel, said: “I know how hard it can be to run your own company and how it is harder to win an award that says to the world you’re the best,” says Julia.
“Business doesn’t always get the publicity it deserves, especially for its role in providing and creating jobs which we all depend on. So I think awards evenings play a vital role not only in identifying the leaders but in flying the flag for an unsung sector.” Elevation Recruitment is the headline sponsor of Sheffield Business Awards.
Kate Stephenson, events manager at Sheffield Chamber, said: “We are delighted to be working in partnership with The Star and Elevation Recruitment to create an even bigger, more prestigious awards than ever before.”
Award categories have been designed to cover the broad spectrum of business activities in the city.
Looking to Sheffield’s past and present strengths, there are awards for excellence in Manufacturing, International Trade, Retail and Customer Service.
The part played in the city’s success by young people and businesses is recognised by awards for Skills, Development and Apprenticeships; Business Start Up of the Year and Young Business Person Of The Year.
New business sectors, developing across the city, get their chance to shine in the contest for awards for Excellence in Digital Communications, Design And Innovation and Impact On The Environment.
Meanwhile, the importance of potential growth sectors is highlighted by awards for Outstanding Achievements In Sports, Hospitality And Tourism; Community Investment and Excellence In Professional Services.
Shortlisted entrants will also be bidding for the Outstanding Business of the Year Award.
