The “best of the best” were crowned at the Sheffield City Region Business Awards.

A gala presentation evening at Ponds Forge sports centre in Sheffield honoured 13 companies
and individuals judged to be the ‘first among
winners’ from the six
biggest business awards in the region.

Hundreds of people attended the black tie event including the heads of Chambers of Commerce, industry leaders and
senior figures from Sheffield College.

It was the second year of the awards, which pull together winners from the Doncaster, Sheffield, Barnsley&Rotherham and Derbyshire Chambers as well as from the Chad and Derbyshire Times newspapers.

The Star editor, James Mitchinson, told guests: “I’d like to think we can use this, the second City Region Business Awards, as an opportunity for optimism.

“It’s difficult to be anything but optimistic when you see the calibre of entrants to our awards.

“Without exception, they were superb.

“As editor of Sheffield Star and associated titles, I would like to pass on my thanks to everyone who was shortlisted.

“More than anything this should be a night where you say ‘thank you’ to your teams. Without them, your businesses would not be what they are today.

“They are the real stars of the show – those companies and individuals who have already proved their excellence in an earlier contest. They are the ones who have battled through a recession, conquered a dizzyingly demanding digital revolution and exported more, made more, learned more and served better.

“And then, at the top of the pile, are tonight’s winners. Your victory is richly deserved and should rightly be enjoyed for years to come. You also become an inspiration to everyone in business.”

He also thanked the judges, “who had the unenviable task of selecting the winners.”

BBC Look North presenter Clare Frisby hosted the awards ceremony.
