IT may look like a golf buggy but Ascent Precision’s new electric vehicle packs a punch.

The Sheffield engineering firm’s new delivery van can carry a tonne - twice as much as the one it replaced, according to managing director Andrew West.

And with a 25mph top speed and 70-mile range it is already earning its keep collecting material from suppliers and delivering finished goods.

Andrew believes it is the first electric delivery vehicle in Sheffield - apart from milk floats.

He added: “I bought it in response to the recent fuel crisis that never really materialised and the ever-increasing price of diesel.

“It cost £6,000 to buy and is exempt from road tax duty as it is fully electric.”

Ascent Precision is a specialist CNC and precision engineering company based at Prospect Works, 136 Savile Street East in Attercliffe.
