Door and window manufacturer Premdor has recruited six apprentices for its Barnsley factory in a bid to avert a skills shortage in four years time.

The Darton company has taken on mechanical and engineering apprentices who are training to become multi-skilled maintenance engineers.

Engineering manager Phil Johnson said: “Future planning confirmed we could experience a skills shortage by 2016. We decided therefore, to bring in six apprentices trained to fulfill that requirement – an investment for the future of the business.”

Some of their technical training will be provided by Barnsley College.
