Apprentice is risk worth taking

Have your say

Many businesses are looking to expand but some people argue the shackles of the current economic environment mean the last thing they need is an apprentice...

At first glance, they could be right. But delve slightly deeper and you will realise that they are wrong.

CTS Training, an independent training provider with over 14 years experience delivering high quality government funded apprenticeships is proud to be sponsoring the Skills/Apprentice/Training category of the Sheffield City Region Business Awards to help celebrate the fantastic achievements of the talented individuals our region has to offer.

So, what exactly are these advantages and how can they benefit your business?

Firstly, the support our Government has to offer has never been greater and their push of AGE (Apprentice Grant for Employers), a new funding initiative designed to encourage SMEs to recruit young apprentices, has never been stronger.

Currently, the National Apprenticeship Service is offering up to 40,000 apprenticeship grants up to £1,500 to aid employers who are interested .

With the Skills Funding Agency covering the full costs for ‘off-the-job’ training for the duration of the apprenticeship for 16 – 18 year olds, 50 per cent for 19+ year olds and 40 per cent for 24+ year olds, there is very little financial input needed.

With an apprentice being up to 75 per cent more cost-effective than recruiting experienced or graduate staff, you are much more likely to see a positive return on investment.

Taking on an apprentice brings a fresh-faced, enthusiastic employee who is more than willing to learn the skills and functions of your business.

This can help you increase productivity, improve competitiveness and develop a more competent workforce.

With 85 per cent of apprentices staying in full-time employment, we think you will agree it is a small risk worth taking.
