Foodies flocked to Italian restaurant Nonna’s on Saturday – to pick up shopping baskets instead of knives and forks.

The Ecclesall Road venue staged its first Italian food mercato. Produce straight from the markets of Milan filled the bar. Meats, olives, fresh fruit and veg, pestos, sauces and olives proved popular.

“Our cuccina deli around the corner closed just before Christmas and people were telling us how much they missed it, so we decided to stage our own market in the restaurant,” say Nonnas.

The mercato will run every Saturday, 10am-1pm.
