Airport case made

Increased flights from Leeds Bradford airport using small commercial planes show a reopened Sheffield City Airport could still be viable, the Federation of Small Businesses has claimed.

Eastern Airways is to increase the number of weekly flights between Leeds Bradford and Aberdeen airports from 22 to 26.

The airline has been operating this route since 2003 to meet the needs of businesses, predominantly in the manufacturing and engineering industry sectors serving the offshore oil industry.

Andrew Flower, FSB South Yorkshire branch chairman, said: “We’d argue the obvious place from which to operate flights to Aberdeen would be Sheffield, given its vast commercial and technical involvement with the offshore oil industry.”
