A SHEFFIELD entrepreneur who has led 18 business acquisitions and sales has told fast growing small and medium-sized enterprises how to accelerate growth by buying and selling businesses.

Chris Welsh’s experience spans the chemical, construction, waste management, IT platform and logistics industries.

He was latterly chief executive of diesel fuel card systems and fuel management services company CH Jones building its turnover from £20 million to £100 million.

Mr Welsh has joined 30 other leading Yorkshire business people, who are giving their time to help young fast growing businesses with one-to-one mentoring as part of the Connect Gazelles business support group, set up by Connect Yorkshire that helps hi-tech SMEs find funding.

Chris Welsh said: “In most acquisitions people end up making the same mistakes; often you may have paid too much but won’t know until later.

“I hope to show through my experience how to avoid this with three or four key issues to be aware of including the first vital steps to take after an acquisition.”

Mr Welsh was speaking at a Connect Gazelles event at The Quadrant, in Sheffield.
