Property consultant Lambert Smith Hampton has completed the first deal on the development of a former petrol filling station on Sheffield’s Ecclesall Road before the structure has started coming out of the ground.

LSH has let more than half the 7,500 sq ft retail and restaurant development to Pizza Express, which will establish a 120-seater restaurant on the site. LSH Sheffield’s head of retail, Matthew Barnsdale, said: “After a lot of hard work, we are delighted to have finally agreed terms with Pizza Express for the ground floor and first floor unit at 501 Ecclesall Road.

“The site has been crying out for redevelopment for some time, so the fact that this commitment has been made while the economy is still fragile and the development sector remains subdued, is a massive coup. Not only does it reflect a significant vote of confidence in the location, it will no doubt further enhance the reputation of Ecclesall Road as one of Sheffield’s premier leisure destinations.”

Pizza Express is part of the Gondola Group, which also operates the ASK and Zizzis restaurant chains.

Gondola Group head of acquisitions, Marc Ward, said: “We have been seeking a suitable opportunity in Ecclesall Road for some time and we are delighted to have finally found a very good site.”

Work on the development is due to be completed in September, after which Pizza Express will move into a 4,000 sq ft unit.
