Rother Valley MP Kevin Barron got the chance to see how steelworks waste can be used to rejuvenate South Yorkshire’s potholed roads when he visited SteelPhalt’s Ickles site in Rotherham.

SteelPhalt has been developing and manufacturing high performance asphalt products, made from steelworks slag, for the UK road surfacing industry since the 1960’s.

Commercial manager Dean Raynor said: “We were delighted that Mr Barron, as our MP, made time to visit our plant to learn more about the process that goes into the creation of the full range SteelPhalt products.”

Around 95 per cent of the slag arriving at the firm’s plant is turned into durable surfacing material for applications that include highway construction.
