Award winning product designer Nathan Bestwick is expanding his South Yorkshire business.
Nathan won Sheffield Hallam University’s Enterprise Challenge two years ago with his designs for kitchen utensils for disabled people.
Since then, he has gone on to win the internationally acclaimed Red Dot Product Design Award and was most recently named Young Designer of the Year in the UK Plastics Industry.
Now, after two years developing his designs at Sheffield firm Gripple’s Incub innovations incubator, he has moved his design company Yormii to Rotherham Investment and Development Office’s Matrix Business Centre in Dinnington.
As an SME based in Rotherham, Yormii will be eligible for advice from a mentor to help him develop international opportunities for his products, which include pepper and salt mills that can be used by people with limited strength and dexterity.
Nathan is already looking to the next step for his business – taking on new staff and workshop space at the business centre that is four times larger than his current unit and which he intends to use as warehousing and a photographic studio.
And he plans to launch new products at Europe’s largest gift and home accessories trade show Spring Fair International, next year before showcasing them at the Chicago Home Show.
“This is such an exciting time for my business and I felt a move to my own dedicated business premises would give me the platform for future growth,” said Nathan. “This is the perfect base to grow my business and having the workshop space means I will be able to gear up easily to future requirements.”
Nathan paid tribute to RiDO business development co-ordinator Martyn Benson.
“I’ve had some great support from RiDO already and with my mentor’s help I have been able to identify new markets in European countries.
“Martyn from RiDO has carried out lots of research, which I simply would not have had the time or contacts to do and put me in touch with relevant organisations overseas. This means I’m able to focus on the UK market, whilst also accelerating growth into international markets for my products too.”
Martyn Benson said: “This is a true South Yorkshire success story. Nathan was brought up in Dinnington and now he is back here showing just what a young entrepreneur can achieve.
“It is fantastic to see him doing so well in his new premises and so exciting to be able to work with him and help him tap into market opportunities not just in the UK but internationally.”
