Buoys made in Worksop could be bobbing along Egypt's Mediterranean coastline and the Suez Canal, if top level talks between XJF Plastics and the Egyptian military bear fruit.
XJF makes navigation buoys from moulded polyethylene which the firm says are about a third of the weight of traditional steel buoys, more environmentally friendly and require little maintenance.
Late last year the company appointed Cairo-based Mohamed Zikri as its first agent in the Middle East, and, thanks to him, XJF's Paul Fairhurst and Ashley Tasker recently returned from extensive talks with officials from the Suez Canal Authority, as well as the Ministry of Defence and Egyptian Navy, responsible for coastal navigation.
Managing director Paul Fairhurst, said: "We first met Mohamed at a maritime exhibition in Rotterdam last October and we're delighted that we've managed to move forward so quickly. We look forward to deploying our buoys there in the very near future."
