Middle East boost for surgical suppliers

Leading surgical instrument manufacturer, Downs Surgical, has won a share of a contract to provide new equipment for Saudi Arabian hospitals.
The deal strengthens the Sheffield company's position in the Saudi Arabian healthcare market which has also been assisted by its recruitment of Riyadh-based distributor Al Hammad Medical Services.

Al Hammad work with a dedicated Downs Surgical team, including three sales representatives and a sales manager, to sell into hospitals and healthcare centres throughout Saudi Arabia.

Downs Surgical's international business manager, Steve Spurgin, said: "Following months of negotiation and meetings, we are delighted to have won part of the Saudi Arabia Ministry of Health Tender.

"The Middle East has brought us great export success, with this expected to accelerate even more this year thanks to such news."

Downs will supply surgical instruments for general and Ear, Nose and Throat surgery.

n Downs Surgical has marked the coming of age of its relationship with Canadian distributor Ultramed by hosting a visit by Ultramed staff to its Sheffield headquarters.

Ultramed has distributed Downs' range of surgical instruments across Canada since 1987.

Downs Surgical's international business manager, Steve Spurgin, said: "Canada is one of our top ten export markets and Ultramed have been a key partner in allowing us to achieve success there.

"We were delighted to have them visit us and look forward to developing even further in this country."
