Sheffield firms are being given a one-off chance to become associated with a new film celebrating the city's music scene, which is going to be used as a marketing tool for the launch of Sheffield's Digital Campus.
The Beat Is The Law is a feature-length independent documentary about the music and musicians that emerged from the city after the 1980s, including Pulp, Moloko, The Longpigs, Babybird, and the works on Warp Records.

The film, made by Eve Wood, is intended to build on the success of another documentary - Made in Sheffield – which charted the rise of The Human League, Heaven 17 and ABC, and was voted one of the 50 best music films ever by Time Out in 2007.

Brendan Moffett, strategic marketing director at city development company Creativesheffield, said: "Sheffield's music scene has been under-celebrated for far too long.

"It is now going to get the exposure that it deserves.

"This is a one-off chance for Sheffield companies to be associated with a film set for global success which will be a particularly powerful marketing tool."

Companies are being invited to sponsor the film, which is being premiered at the Sheffield Carling Academy on October 15.

It is expected to get global exposure through the cinema, festivals, television broadcasts, the internet and on DVD.

Heaven 17's Martyn Ware will be the guest speaker at the event, and limited edition prints of artwork commissioned for the film will be available to buy.

Local DJ Ralph Razor will be spinning classic 80s and 90s tracks.

Places are strictly limited. E-mail: eve@sheffieldvision.com for tickets.
