Marks & Spencer is preparing to officially open the doors to its new Foodhall at Wheatley Hall Road Retail Park on Wednesday May 27, 2015, bringing 50 new jobs to the area.
The M&S Foodhall will span over 9,500 sq ft and will offer customers the quality and freshness of M&S food, with over 6,200 food and drink lines available including the tempting Taste of the British Isles summer range. The new store will also feature a Bakery with a range of speciality breads, pastries and cakes freshly baked in-store each day.
Store Manager, Bernadette Barkham, has worked tirelessly to ensure the right people have been recruited at the store. Bernadette commented: “The launch of our new Foodhall in Doncaster is big news for our customers and we want to make sure we’re providing them with the very best in customer service to sit alongside our quality food and drink offer, as well as the latest shopping environment.
“We’ve got a fabulous new team in place which we have recruited locally and I know their experience and expertise will shine through and make our new M&S a great place to shop - be it for the weekly food run or a special occasion.”
Recruitment for the new store started in February 2015 and M&S has since filled all the positions.
Melanie Campbell, 48, from Pontefract is one of the candidates recruited for a role in the new store. Melanie commented: “I started working at M&S when I was 15 and absolutely loved it. I really got the buzz for working in retail and speaking to customers on a daily basis.
“Over the past twenty years, I’ve taken in a variety of jobs but I was keen to return to M&S as I have such fond memories of my time there. To ease myself back into retail, I applied for a seasonal vacancy at M&S and when my contract ended, I was offered the chance to apply to work in the Bakery at the new store.
“I jumped at the chance as I used to own a catering company and enjoy working with food – and what could be better than getting to make the delicious cakes and breads offered by M&S. I’ve been on a lot of training to learn how to use the new equipment and make all the baked products and it’s been so much fun. Everyone has been really friendly and helpful, and it’s extremely satisfying when you look at a full bakery counter and know you’ve made it all – plus the smell is amazing.
“I’m really looking forward to working in a brand new store and getting to know the regular customer orders and sharing my knowledge and advising them on which products they should sample.”
Working alongside the new staff will be section co-ordinator, Mark Holt (28), from Epworth. Mark has been working for M&S for over seven years and is looking forward to motivating his new team to ensure everything is running smoothly in the new store.
Mark commented: “I really enjoy working in the Store Operations team as the role is extremely varied. In the new store I will be responsible for all the chilled products and ensuring all the shelves are stocked and updated regularly. I will also be responsible for motivating my new team and getting the store stocked ahead of the opening day, so it’s great to see that all the staff are already excited about the opening.
“Although I’ve been working for M&S for over seven years, this will be my first store opening, so I’m really looking forward to the buzz around the launch and welcoming Doncaster locals to see the store for the first time.”
The M&S Foodhall at Wheatley Hall Road Retail Park will be open between 8am and 8pm Monday to Friday, 8am to 7pm on Saturdays and 10.30am to 4.30pm on Sundays, with free parking available at the retail park.
