BAM Construction has won a £5 million contract to build fire stations on the Parkway and at Birley Moor in Sheffield.

The Parkway Fire Station will incorporate green energy features, including air source heat pumps, solar-heated water and photovoltaic cells, while the Birley Moor Station, which will only be occupied part time, will also have a number of eco-friendly features.

The contractor, which has offices in Leeds, is also offering local rescue services the opportunity to use its construction sites for training purposes. BAM has undertaken a number of education and health projects in Sheffield during the past decade, including the refurbishment of Sheffield University’s Arts Tower and a laboratory rationalisation project for Sheffield Teaching Hospitals.

It has just completed work on Rolls-Royce’s new Advanced Blade Casting Facility on the Advanced Manufacturing Park.
