South Yorkshire regeneration agencies have received a £2 million European boost for plans to increase economic growth in target sectors across South Yorkshire.
The cash will go towards a four year, £3 million Sector Growth Programme, run by Creativesheffield, Barnsley Development Agency, Invest in Doncaster and Rotherham Investment & Development Office.
The programme will support inward investors and expanding local businesses in the advanced manufacturing; creative and digital industries; business services and logistics sectors such as.
Creativesheffield’s director of business investment, David Fletcher, says key activities have focused on larger private sector employers, but the new cash will help the organisations to identify and support high growth small and medium-sized enterprises.
“This programme builds on the very successful partnership working between the four investment teams across South Yorkshire,” said Mr Fletcher.
“Over the last three years, this partnership supported the creation of over 4,000 new jobs and over £250 million of private sector investment.”
The Sector Growth Programme aims to capitalise on the potential of existing regional assets in the region, such as the Advanced Manufacturing Park, Sheffield Digital Campus, Barnsley Digital Media Centre and Robin Hood Airport Doncaster-Sheffield.
