JOHN Fewkes goes into his English title bid on Saturday in the knowledge that he may have to go the full 10-round distance to collect his first major honour in boxing.
The Norfolk Park lightweight accepts he is no knockout artist ... he has stopped just two opponents in his 17-fight 100 per cent winning record.
But he says he is more than ready to go the full rounds to beat Manchester's John Murray.
Fewkes, speaking in a video interview with The Star, admitted: "With my 'phenomenal' punch record - two out of 17 - I don't think I will be looking to for a KO, but I have trained hard for 10 rounds.
"If I hurt him I am going to jump on him and stop it ... if the opportunity comes I am going to take him out," he said in a sometimes jocular video chat with injured gymmate Ross Burkinshaw.
The English title means "everything" to the Norfolk Park scrapper, he said.
"I have been training since I was 11 and the English title is going to be a stepping stone, going on to the British, European and world title," he said.
"I am training as if this is my world title fight," he said.
Fewkes says he had studied Murray's style and is expecting a "come-forward, aggressive fighter".
He added: "I know it is going to be tough but I have always been okay in sparring and I will just have to box him."
Fewkes, aged 21, said he was confident in his own ability and determination to win through.
"The only think stopping me going all the way is myself," he said.
"I've got the potential to go to the top if I train, keep disciplined and just believe in myself. I know what I've got to do
"Murray thinks I am just going to come and dance about for a few rounds and he's going to get me and stop me.
"He has got another think coming. If I am not winning after two rounds, we'll go to Plan B. I will do something different.
"I don't think John Murray can change to adapt to me whereas I can adapt myself to him."
Fewkes also paid tribute on the video to other prospects in the Sheffield Boxing Centre gym, including Jezz Wilson, Carl Wild and Lee Edwards.
