NEW British champion Kell Brook has split up with the trainer who guided him to the Lonsdale title only a month ago.
Hillsborough's Brook, who is managed by promoter Frank Warren, has quit Dave Coldwell's Rotherham stable and has gone back to his first base, the Ingle gym in Wincobank.
Coldwell used to have an association with Warren's Sports Network, and the two still co-manage another British champion, Ecclesfield's Ryan Rhodes.
But Coldwell recently surprised the boxing world by joining Dave Haye's rival promotional firm Hayemaker.
Today Coldwell said: "Kell was genuinely upset, and after all the hard work and difficult times we have been through together over the last three and a half years I don't mind admitting I am gutted too.
"We had a long chat and he was close to tears. But he has been advised to move on. I am glad he has gone back to the Ingles rather than starting anywhere fresh.
"And who knows, his contract with Frank Warren is only a couple of years and he is only 22? Maybe we will work together in the future.
"Whether that is the case or not, I wish him all the best for the future, I really do."
Last month, Dean Powell, match-maker for Warren, said he wanted to make clear that Sports Network would be happy for Coldwell to carry on training fighters like Brook, even though Coldwell had joined Hayemaker.
Powell said at the time: "We have no problem with Dave Coldwell continuing to train these fighters as long as it does not interfere with our business. Our side do not have a problem with that."
Brook is undefeated after 17 bouts. He won the British welterweight title in June, stopping Barrie Jones, at Bethnal Green.
Paisley's Kevin McIntyre is his mandatory challenger for his British title.
Purse bids have been called for the Brook-McIntyre bout and must be submitted to the Board's office in Cardiff by Wednesday August 13, with the fight by the end of November.
