SHEFFIELD takes on Worksop in a local boxing showdown in September.
Stannington's Billy Boyle takes on Notts-based Simeon Cover at Don Valley Stadium.

Boyle, 32, who has a vocal fan base, has a 100 per cent record after eight pro bouts. He has stopped his opponent five times.

Cover, 30, is hoping to do better than his recent record suggests he is capable of.

The Ingle fighter has lost all but one of his last 16 contests, and has a W16 (KOs 4) L 41 D 2 overall CV.

Also on the Glyn Rhodes card on September 12 are Dwayne Hill and Jon Baguley who box for the lightweight Central Area title. Jezz Wilson, Wayne Reed and Sam Sheedy will also figure.

n A clash of heads in the sixth and final round of his contest against Tipton's Joe Skeldon at Wolverhampton Civic Hall left Barnsley middleweight Jason Smith with a cut above the right eye and robbed him of the chance of ending a three fight losing run.

The ringside doctor, despite the boxer's protests, judged him unable to continue with just 49 seconds of the bout remaining.

Smith had begun well, sending his well supported opponent to the seat of his shorts inside the opening 30 seconds with a short left hook to the head, and whilst Skeldon, back in the ring after an absence of nine years, weathered the early storm to hit back with a series of clubbing hooks to the head, the contest was still close as it entered its later stages the general opinion at ringside being that if Jason had taken the final session he could have been rewarded with a share of the spoils. The cut however, not particularly bad once wiped, put paid to Smith's plan and handed Skeldon a fortuitous victory.
