Sheffield United's compensation claim over the Carlos Tevez affair looks set to be delayed until next February as West Ham step up their legal fight.
The Blades are claiming £30million in damages for being relegated from the Premier League after winning an arbitration tribunal ruling last month.

West Ham are due to submit a claim to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne today, as
king them to rule on the case, and are also considering High Court action.

Meanwhile, Lord Griffiths, the 85-year-old law lord who headed the arbitration panel, has agreed to adjourn tomorrow's directions hearing - aimed at laying out the timetable to decide compensation - after West Ham asked for a postponement.

It is now expected to be February next year before any compensation decision is reached, and even longer if the case goes to CAS or the High Court.

If Sheffield United do not give the go-ahead for CAS to arbitrate in the case, however - and there has been no sign of that so far - then that hugely decreases the chances of that court agreeing to take the case.

A West Ham spokesman called on the Blades to agree to take the case to CAS.

The spokesman said: "We do believe that the arbitration panel's ruling needs to be reviewed by a court which can help resolve the outstanding issues in this case.

"This is not about the issue of damages - the current ruling has major implications for English football."

Sheffield United's chairman Kevin McCabe refused to comment on West Ham's call beyond saying: "If that is what they are saying, then that's their prerogative. We will not be commenting."

Which part of 'We agree to abide by the findings of the independent tribunal' do these cheating ar******s from West Ham not understand.

Let me make it easy for the illiterates from West Ham to understand. YOU CHEATED, YOU TRIED TO COVER IT UP, YOU WERE FOUND OUT. YES YOU WERE FINED £5.5 MILLION. THERE HAS BEEN AN INDEPENDENT TRIBUNAL TO DETERMINE IF YOU SHOULD PAY COMPENSATION, IT SAID YES. YOU AGREED TO ABIDE BY THE FINDINGS OF THE TRIBUNAL.

It is that simple, so why are you still trying to squirm out of your responsibility?

With regards to above comment. The reason West Ham are taking it further is because they can! I have been talking to a lawyer friend of mine about the Tevez case, he says that although West Ham have according to McCabe been found guilty by the arbitration, there is no-one to enforce any payment. It is as simple as that. There is no way West Ham are going to pay a penny to an panel of powerless biddies! Sorry to spring this on you. West Ham will take this all the way to the High Court. In fact it won't even be them, it will be McCabe, if he wants any chance of being paid anything he will have to take it to the High Court. This will take several years. Seriously. The most likely outcome will be an out of court settlement. West Ham will take this all the way believe me. They won't give up. Unlike Warnock and his joke of a team in those last eleven games of that season! Anyway, 30 million is a drop in the ocean even if it does mean giving you some pocket money. I know what I'd prefer, the Premier League. It's wonderful. You should try it sometime! Idiots.

Mmm. Very interesting comments folks. However, the overriding fact her is and what every one seems to be either forgetting or just ignoring, is that West Ham have brought the whole of the credibility of the Premiership into disrepute, ridiculed the regulations laid down regarding transfers and generally ridden roughshod over all that every team in the premiership signs up to.
That most of all, should be why West ham are forced to pay compensation. It is well and good getting the comments of idiots and such like from you guys, but if the shoe was on the other foot, I doubt very much if your teams directors would just shy away from the fight. Kevin McCabe is well aware of the fact that West Ham will try to go as far as they can with it, even to the High Court, because when it gets there, it is not a group of powerless biddies that will give a ruling and what ever ruling comes from them will have to be adhered too. Yes I know the ruling of a court can go either way, so it always a 50-50 chance that Sheffield United will still be the victors, even though as is rightly pointed out, this could take years.

At the end of the day though, no matter what argument is put forth, West Ham cheated and were caught out and are now bleating for sympathy to anyone who will listen. Poor Lambs.
