Sheffield United still have a budget "well in excess of the majority" of Championship rivals and have moved into the black with a profit of £5.7m in the last financial year, the club stated this afternoon.
In the previous year the Blades reported a loss of £6.3m.

Now, turnover at £32.1m. was slightly down(2008: £32.4m).

But bank debt relating to football now stands at £2.313m compared to £11.491m in 2008, said United.

Chairman Kevin McCabe sa
id: "The world has changed and in leading Sheffield United in these difficult economic times the ability to adapt to change is vital in order to maintain the safe running of our famous club.

"On the pitch last season we were still in with a chance of automatic promotion but, for the fourth time in the last 12 years, promotion back to the Premier League via the play-offs, eluded the Blades."

Looking ahead, Mr McCabe commented: "In simple terms, we must all pull together again in order to achieve our aim of getting back to where we belong.

"The playing squad has been strengthened in several key areas to accommodate our objectives for this season, adding quality to the first team in a manner to suit the need to steadily reduce the annual player wage bill.

"The parachute funding from the Premier League ceased at the end of last season and thus the management of the football team has to be achieved within its budget.

"But make no bones about it, the budget Sheffield United has is well in excess of the majority of our competitors in the Championship.

"Let's hope that United get the 'rub of the green' which, for whatever reason, so often seems to elude us as there is no one striving harder than Sheffield United to be back amongst the highest echelon of English football."

That profit will be thanks to West Ham then I take it? Plus selling all your prized assets and NOT reinvesting into the team. McCabes hoping for luck then so that tells you he's not going to pump millions into the blunts.....LOL happy days!

Where's all the deluded blunts telling us how we made a loss and the big mighty blunts made £5 million.

You still 14th and your still not going up!!

Stick the dummy back in Fells.

Like what's been said before you saw fit to delete it (what's up the truth hurt eh?) the profit is from a) West Ham b) selling all your decent players and replacing them with mediocre ones.

Delete at will muppet......PS go take a look at our page about Strafford being reelected at our AGM theres more idiots from S2 on there than there is on your own pages....surprised you not one of them! MUG

No investment going on team building then I take it.

League position???? what is it with you blunts and the league position? Remember you just the 3 points above us not doing too well considering before the season started you were all saying you'd be going up....but hey your only 15 points behind the mighty newcastle, you can make that up...can't you? LOL

Fells/sbc - So much vitriol against an Owl fan, why not vent your rage on McC/KB, as at present there does`nt appear to be much money being spent on new players and loads of loanees instead.

Oh of course, I forgot it`s so easy to be spewing venom, instead of actually commenting on the story itself.

Who really cares about crowd sizes ?.

Surely you Blunts would be better served on supporting the team and concentrate on getting a play off spot ?.

UTO - WTID.

"Who cares about crowd sizes?" peeps Wisefowl. Well, its all your chairman can think about. If "investors" are only interested about crowd sizes it might explain the lack of investors. Investment by March 31st said Strapon and we`re 4 weeks off Christmas. Its not gonna happen is it Wisefowl?.
