KEVIN BLACKWELL'S appointment as Sheffield United manager has repaired the relationship between the club and its fans according to a leading influential supporters' group.
Blackwell, who replaced Bryan Robson at the helm in February, was confirmed as the former England captain's permanent successor before Sunday's 3-2 defeat at Southampton.
Robson's six-month reign in South Yorkshire ended in acrimonious circumstances when a series of lacklustre performances provoked furious protests on the terraces of Bramall Lane.
But despite failing to lead United into the Championship play-offs, the team have been transformed under Blackwell's stewardship and a run of eight victories from 11 their final games saw them finish just four points short of the top six.
"There's a way of doing things here," Richard Batho, of www.thebladesonline.com, said.
"The players have to accept that they can't become too aloof from the fans.
"They have to be as accessible, grounded and understood as possible."
Results apart, one of Blackwell's greatest triumphs has been establishing a healthy line of communication between United and its following.
"Bryan Robson said things that perhaps weren't always properly understood," Batho added.
"Kevin Blackwell has left no room for any misunderstanding.
"The supporters understand what he wants and we've responded to that.
"Nothing is overcomplicated with Kevin.
"Regardless of what happened at Southampton I know that everyone is really excited about the start of next season."
