JON Stead will get the chance to inflict some damage on Sheffield Wednesday's Championship campaign just 19 days after leaving Sheffield United on loan.
Stead, loaned to Ipswich by the Blades on Monday, will be hoping to be selected to play at Hillsborough on September 20.

The international break this weekend means he will have time to bed in at Portman Road before being considered for a possible
debut against Reading.

Ipswich then have a midweek trip to Southampton to fit in before Stead ventures north and back to Sheffield.

Stead will come up against another South Yorkshire team, Barnsley, in the same month. Ipswich host the Reds on September 30.

It is the end of November before the Tractor Boys welcome Sheffield United to East Anglia.

The former Blackburn, Derby and Sunderland striker is manager Jim Magilton's bet to be a scoring success with Ipswich.

"He has played and scored goals at Premier League level," he said. "I'm sure if we give him the ammunition, he will score goals. Jon coming in will add to the competition for places in attack."

But Huddersfield-born Stead, aged 25, may have some work to do to woo over the Town fans. Asked whether supporters welcomed his signature, half of the respondents on an internet forum said they think he "is no better or worse than Alan Lee", the one-time Rotherham United star who has just joined Crystal Palace.

Stead joined the club on-loan until January, with the move becoming permanent should his stay prove successful.
