CAN Sheffield United hold off the challenge of Norwich City and finish top of the Championship table?
Will Barnsley climb from fourth bottom to a position more in keeping with their status as FA Cup semi-finalists?
Okay, it's only the attendances table that United can finish top of but they will be able to say they have been The Championship's bes
t supported club.
Intriguingly, it is Sheffield Wednesday who can play a big part in them staying there and also finish with an average gate topping 25,000.
At the moment, United are just two short of that figure, leading the way with 24,998.
But that figure is sure to increase due to the gate of around 30,000 expected for the second Sheffield showdown of the season at the Lane on April 8.
Are Blades fans the best in the Championship? Post your comments below. With another Yorkshire derby against play-off chasers Hull City and Bristol City, the surprise automatic promotion candidates, certain to bring a big following for their final away game on April 26, the Blades look sure to average over 25,000 and so stay on top.
Norwich, despite their disappointing season, are lying second with an average crowd of 24,451.
These two, along with Wolves, 23,060, are the only clubs to average more than 22,000.
Wednesday's average gate has dipped this season but they are still eighth-best supported at 20,709. They are sandwiched in between Ipswich (21,144) and Southampton (20,538).
Barnsley are currently fourth from bottom with their average of 10,982 - this despite having an excellent home record having lost only twice.
They clearly will have the figure boosted by today's visit of Sheffield United and almost certainly by additional interest should they reach the FA Cup Final.
The average gates of the bottom three, Colchester (5,415), Scunthorpe (6,508) and Blackpool (8,745) if COMBINED would get nowhere near Sheffield United''s alone.
